GUIDELINES ON INFANT FEEDING

Breast-milk is modatory for first four months.

Eclusive breat-feeding even without water or any other fluids is enoguh.

Breast-feeding should be continued till all the milk teeth (primary dentition) are erupted (20-24) months)

Bullet

Complementary feed can be started along with breast milk at 4-5 months or whenever the child gains a 5 kg weight or when the infant starts chewing.

Home available foods like idli, idiappam, rice pongal, kitchadi, dhal and curd rice should be started one item at a time. Respect child's likes and dislikes; Avoid force feeding.

Mashed vegetable like potato, carrot, beetroot and green leafy vegetables should be given one at a time along with the above mentioned foods

The yellow of the boiled egg to be given first followed by the white, may be started from 6-8 months.

No need for multi-vitamin drops, gripe water or any other tonics for normal body while on exclusive breast feeds.

Weight your child every month upto one-year, every two months upto 3 years, and thereafter every three months upto 6 yeras regularly, which will indicate the weight gain and the adequacy of nutrition.

Consult your doctor in case of lactation failure or other feeding problems.
