Initiate
breast feeding soon after birth preferably within 1/2 - 1 hour. |

Practise
exclusive demand feeding during the first 4 - 6 months of age. |

Continue
breast feeding as long as possible preferable till two years of
age, the period of rapid brain growth and myelination. |

Start
building the weaning bridge at the age of 4 - 6 months by
introducing semisolids that the child can eat and not drink. |

Slowly
switch over to "family pot feeding" and empower the baby
to take everything cooked at home by one year of age. |

Make a "safety
net" for the young child in the form of supplementary
feeding, group eating or small frequent feeds using the "Akshayapatra
concept'. |

Ensure a
balanced diet that includes all the various food items and
nutrients. |
 |
Don't starve
the child during illness and ensure easily digestable food items
including breast milk. |
 |
Ensure
micronutrient supply by including green leafy vegetables (GLV),
green yellow orange (GYO) vegetables and fruits etc. and also
utilize micronutrient supplementation programs like Vit. A, iron,
folic acid, iodine etc. |

Ensure
quality of survival and overall the development by non-nutritional
interventions like socio-economic advancement, standards of
sanitation, immunization, deworming, family harmony, tender loving
care (TLC) and developmental stimulation. |
